Ondo Senators Opposed Hate Speech Bill

Published

on

Two senators from Ondo State have opposed the bill seeking to regulate social media and curb hate speech in Nigeria.

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo (Ondo South) and Senator Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North) kicked against the bill in their different reactions.

Recall that the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Sabi Abdullahi, had introduced the bill on the floor of the Senate on November 12. Abdullahi had proposed the establishment of the National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speech, which will also handle offenders.

According to the bill, anybody, who commits an offence deemed as hate speech, will be liable to life imprisonment. Where the act causes any loss of life, the person shall also be punished with death by hanging, the bill proposed.

Reacting to the development, Tofowomo described the bill as a “duplication of existing law for Nigerians”. He noted that the objectives of the new bill have already been addressed by the Cybercrime Act 2015 signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The lawmaker stated that Nigerians should feel free to air their views and opinions on the bill. He said, “The Cybercrime Act which was signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan has addressed Internet usage and safety with regards to prevention, prohibition, combating cybercrimes. It also prescribes the punishment cybercrime offenders should face in Nigeria.

”The Nigerian constitution which also guaranteed freedom of expression as a fundamental right also made relevant provisions for the restrictions and derogation from such rights.

So, the objectives of this new bill have already been addressed by both the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Cybercrime Act 2015. ”I, therefore enjoin Nigerians to follow the due process by attending the public hearing of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to present their petitions and air their views in the appropriate place where their voices could be heard instead of complaining on social media.”

On his part, Senator Boroffice said there was no cause for public anxiety over the bill. He noted that the bill cannot take away the inalienable rights being enjoyed by citizens of the country under section 39 of Nigeria’s constitution.

He said, “The fundamental right enriched in section 39 of the constitution of the Federal Republic is sacred and sacrosanct. No bill can overthrow it.

“The bill will go through public hearing and Nigerians will decide. No cause for anxiety.”

Nigeria Needs Factories The Size Of Ibadan NOT Churches – DaddyFreeze Replies Pastor Adeboye

Published

OAP, DaddyFreeze has countered 77-year-old General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who during the week, said one of the things he must do before he dies is to build a church as big as Ibadan city in Oyo state.

Preaching on the third day of the Holy Ghost Congress 2019 holding at the Redemption Campground, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Pastor Adeboye said he has a plan of building a church as big as Ibadan. According to him, no one should believe he is dead until that is done.

Freeze has now countered his dream. In a post shared on his IG page this evening, Freeze said what Nigeria needs more of now are factories and not more church edifice as she already has enough of that. Read his post and share your thoughts.

GOD DOES NOT LIVE IN HOUSES BUILT BY HUMAN HANDS!!!

This in my opinion, is a selfish ambition (scripturally selfish ambitions are in the same category as witchcraft and sexual orgies), that does nothing for Christians, rather I see it as a quest to turn believers into beasts of burden!

? Galatians 5:20 ?
New International Version
idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Adeboye wants to use 3,080 square kilometers to build a church or a bigger business center, which one???
???

In this poverty riddled land, with more people in extreme poverty than China and India combined (according to worldpoverty.io), couldn’t he at least have been a little more creative????

We need factories the size of Ibadan NOT churches, we have way too many churches already.
With 10 churches on each street, we have so much religion, so much hunger and underdevelopment yet so little love.?

WE ARE THE CHURCH, NOT A BUILDING, the church is not the ‘house of God’, it’s just a building and God does not live in temples built with human hands.

? Acts 7:48 ?
New Living Translation
However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,

? Acts 17:24 ?
New Living Translation
“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples,

? 2 Corinthians 5:1 ?
New International Version
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

? Hebrews 9:11 ?
New Living Translation
So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world.

Impeachment: Trump Has High Chance In Office – US Senate Leadership

Published

impeachment

The US Senate leadership has stated that US president won’t be removed from office, as a result of ‘the weak case’ presented by the Democrat controlled US House Of Representatives.

The House Judiciary committee led by Democrat Jerry Nadler voted along party lines on Friday to submit two articles of impeachment against Trump and the US leader could be impeached as early as Wednesday next week.

Trump’s impeachment by the US House is as a result of a July phone call he made with Ukraine’s president Zelensky asking for investigation of his political rival Joe Biden in return for military aid.

The House could impeach Trump next week but the Senate led by Republican Mitch McConnell says the Democrats have no case and he will be working with the White House lawyers and the president to ensure a quick and smooth trial in the senate.

“The case is so darn weak coming over from the House. We all know how it’s going to end,” Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said on Fox News program “Hannity.” on Saturday.

“There is no chance the president is going to be removed from office.”

McConnell also said he hoped that none of the members of his caucus would vote to remove the president from office, adding “it wouldn’t surprise me if we got one or two Democrats” to vote to acquit Trump .

He explained that the articles of impeachment would be different from ordinary legislation that makes its way from the House, in that: “We have no choice but to take it up. But we’ll be working through this process hopefully in a fairly short period of time, in total coordination with the White House counsel’s office and the people who are representing the president, in the way all of the Senate.”

Mitch declined to reveal what a Senate trial might look like or whether Republicans would call witnesses such as former Vice President Joe Biden, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., or the intelligence community whistleblower, whose complaint about Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky sparked the impeachment inquiry.

“I’m going to take my cues from the president’s lawyers,” said McConnell.

“My hope is that it will be a shorter process rather than a long, lengthy process.”
